The short version
Notcha runs on your Mac. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and the app never sends your music, calendar, clipboard, notes, files or camera to anyone.
What Notcha accesses on your Mac, and why
- What's playing (Spotify, Apple Music, and other apps that report Now Playing): to show the title, artist, cover and controls. This is read locally and never sent anywhere.
- Spotify / Apple Music control (macOS Automation permission, optional): to enable shuffle, repeat and volume. macOS asks once; you can say no.
- Calendar (read-only, optional): to show your next meetings and a Join button. Events never leave your Mac.
- Camera (optional): only while the Mirror tab is open. Nothing is recorded or saved.
- Clipboard history: kept in memory only and cleared when you quit. Copies that password managers mark as private are skipped.
- Files on the shelf: Notcha remembers where the files are (so the shelf survives a restart). It doesn't upload or copy them.
- Notes and settings: stored on your Mac.
When Notcha uses the internet
Only for these things, and none of them include personal content:
- Updates: once a day Notcha asks getnotcha.com whether a newer version exists. That request includes your IP address and the app's name and version, as any web request does. No system profile is sent.
- Trial clock: during the free trial, Notcha reads the current date from getnotcha.com, so a wrongly-set clock can't affect your trial. Nothing about you is sent.
- License activation: depending on how your key was issued, activating may contact our license or payment provider with your license key and an anonymous identifier derived from your Mac (a hash, never your name or the Mac's real serial number). Offline keys don't contact a server.
- Spotify covers: to show a Spotify album cover, Notcha downloads the image from Spotify's own image servers.
This website
- No cookies and no advertising trackers.
- We don't run analytics right now. If we add any, it will be cookie-free and privacy-friendly, and this page will say so.
- Our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs (such as IP address) to run and protect the site.
- If you joined the launch waitlist, we keep your email address only to tell you about Notcha. Email [email protected] and we'll delete it.
Purchases
Payments are handled by our payment provider, which processes your payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see your full card number.
Your choices
Every permission is optional and can be changed in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Quitting Notcha clears the clipboard history. To remove everything Notcha stored, delete the app and the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Notcha.
